Immigration: NIS reopens passport application portal

THE Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) announced the reopening of its passport application and payment portal on Tuesday, 8th of June, 2021 in Abuja.

THE Comptroller- General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) Mr Muhammad Babandede, through the organisation’s spokesperson Mr Amos Okpu, has announced the reopening of the passport application which will be effective from 12 midnight on Tuesday, 8th of June, 2021.

 According to Babandede, “Applications and payments for passport services shall be made through the service website, www.immigration.gov.ng. Applicants are expected to visit the portal to apply and upload their support documents for vetting and processing. Upon successful applications, applicants shall be able to choose any day, time, and location convenient for them for their interview”. 

He also went on to say that; “A chat room facility to guide applicants through the application and payment process has also been provided on the portal.
“The new timeline for passport production and issuance after a successful enrolment at the selected issuing centre shall be six weeks for fresh applications and three weeks for re-issue (renewal applications).”

It should be noted that, with the re-opening of the portal, applicants can now apply and make payments for any category of passport of their choice. Applicants will also be contacted through their email address and contact numbers provided at the point of registration when their passport is ready for collection.
