THE National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), over the weekend, received seized dosages of Tramadol to the tune of #6 billion from the Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

While speaking at the handing over of the impounded items to the NDLEA officials, the Apapa Customs Area Controller; Comptroller Yusuf Malanta said the NCS discovered the illicit drugs through the deployment of what he called the “Forensic Manifest Management System,” which he said was able to uncover the items hitherto concealed with towels.

On his part, the Apapa Commander of the NDLEA, Ameh Inalegwu lauded the NCS, while expressing optimism in the continued partnership between both agencies of Government to ensure the sustained fight against illicit drug abuse and trafficking.

“The fight against illicit drug abuse and trafficking is everyone’s business and the Nigeria Customs Service is all out to support the NDLEA in combating this ugly menace decisively. We would make sure that all these illicit drugs have no place in Apapa Command,” he added.

Inalegwu also hinted at the agency’s plan to obtain a court permit that would empower the NDLEA to destroy the seized items, adding that this would be done within the next one month.
