He had already poured petroleum substance on the four students of Towergate Private School, who were on their way to school, and attempted to burn them before they were rescued.

POLICE operatives from the Ipaja Division of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 20-year-old man, Kayode Dada, who allegedly attempted to burn four students of Towergate Private School, Ipaja, in the Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA of Alimosho LGA with petroleum substance before the victims were rescued. 

According to media reports, the incident happened at Oluwaga Street junction in Ipaja, where the victims namely Miss Desire Ojo, Darasomi Olubodun, Sharon Obadan, and Master Joba Olubodun were on their way to school before they were attacked by Dada.

Following the alleged assault and attempt to burn the victims, the matter was reported to the Police and he was arrested for assault and occasional harm by attempting to set fire to the victims by pouring petrol on them before their rescue.

During his detention, he was thoroughly interrogated over his conduct and the Police found him culpable of the alleged offence. He was thus charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for the alleged offence, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, SP Benedict Aigbokhan, had no objection to the bail application by his lawyer, rather, he asked the Court to give a date for a hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs K.A. Ariyo, granted him bail in the sum of #100,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of a means of livelihood. The matter was then adjourned till February 28, 2023, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre, Kirikiri , Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
