FERSCOAT International School, in collaboration with Diamond Chess Services, attended a National School Team Chess Championship aimed at promoting the game of chess and raising champions through a meticulous approach to life, using the chessboard as a platform.
Note that the Nigerian Chess Federation (NCF), in partnership with Ecobank staged the biggest chess tournament in Nigeria, which featured schools at all levels of learning in Nigeria (primary, secondary and tertiary) in an event titled: “National School Team Chess Championship.”
The event, which had seven (7) rounds for two days, featured two different formats: Rapid on May 24 and Blitz on May 25. This event was well-attended, featuring institutions from all over Nigeria, which numbered over 200 schools nationwide.
The five members of the secondary school team who represented Ferscoat International School include Adeniyi Damifayo, Adetunji Kehinde, Adetunji Taiwo, Akinola Peace, and Ogundiran Titofunmi. The school’s lead instructor was Mr Chima Atuonwu and the accompanying delegate was Mr Olushola Ezekiel.
At the end of the Rapids and Blitz performance, the top 10 schools were rewarded with a place on the podium and a cash prize for their respective finish on the leaderboard.
Ferscoat International School (College) finished in ninth place and was rewarded with the sum of N100,000 for their performance.
