A 60-year-old woman selling roasted plantain by the roadside popularly referred to as Iya Oni-boli and two other passersby including a schoolboy were on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, seriously injured and rushed to a nearby hospital after a near-fatal accident happened around Iyana-Ipaja area of the Alimosho LGA.

According to media reports, operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) who were at the scene stated that the accident happened at the underbridge at Dopemu inward Iyana-Ipaja, in the Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA of Alimosho LGA.3103

It was gathered that the lone accident which involved a commercial bus occurred at about 3:15 pm. 

“A 60 years old woman selling roasted plantain by the roadside popularly called Iya Oni-boli and two other passersby including a schoolboy were seriously injured and rushed to a nearby hospital by another private car owner for immediate medical treatment,” narrated Adebayo Taofiq, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA.

He said a preliminary investigation revealed that the Volkswagen commercial bus lost control as a result of a brake failure and overspeeding.

The Head of LASTMA (Alpha) around Dopemu, Mr Amusa Mukaila Owoyemi, who led the rescue team, confirmed that the driver of the Volkswagen commercial bus was immediately handed over to Policemen from the Dopemu Police Station while his vehicle was quickly removed from the road to pave ways for free flow of traffic to other road users.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Bolaji Oreagba, however, warned motorists, particularly commercial bus drivers, to always ensure their vehicles are in good condition before setting out for movement on the roads and to avoid overspeeding.
