THE delegation of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Sunday, December 3, 2023, paid an inspection visit to the White-Sand community in Isheri-Oshun of Igando-Ikotun LCDA, and some other areas of Alimosho Federal Constituency affected by the flood.

This exercise was a result of a motion raised on the floor of the House on November 9, 2023, by Hon. Ganiyu Adele Ayuba, a Member of the House of Representatives in Alimosho Federal Constituency, on flood-affected areas of Alimosho Federal Constituency.

As part of the resolution, the House urged the Ecological Fund Office (EFO) to redeem the ecological problems in the Constituency while mandating the Committees on Environment, Ecological Fund, and Works to undertake a tour assessment of the affected areas, ascertain the level of damages to the communities, and liaise with relevant agencies to recommend measures to tackle the menace.6803

The House also mandated the Committees on Works and Appropriations to make provision in the 2024 Budget estimates to rehabilitate damaged roads in the Alimosho Federal Constituency.

During the inspection, the delegation observed and inspected the condition and needs of the affected areas and met with some families and Heads of Community Development Areas (CDAs), who provided a brief on the situation of the areas and the extent of property damage caused by the flood.

The inspection exercise touched on some of the major sites experiencing extreme flooding within the Alimosho Federal Constituency.

The environmental assessment covers major sites experiencing extreme flooding in Isheri-Osun Town, such as White Sand, Igbo-Electru, and Eleven Acres, while the officers also inspected the canals at Potoku, Igando Town, and the axis of Akesan and Obadore Town, where Alimosho Local Government Area shared a boundary with Ojo Local Government Area.6804

Lasisi Ayinde Akinsanya, and former Executive Secretary (ES) of the council, Hon. Wale Azeez, among other political stakeholders in the area.

The intervention is expected to complement Hon. Ayuba's efforts towards the actualisation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda for a greater and better Nigeria.
