Igbos in Alimosho to hold New Yam Festival this Sunday

ALL is now set for the Alimosho Local Governments Area Igbo New Yam festival slated for Sunday, November 27, 2022, as dignitaries from within and outside Lagos State are expected to attend the event.

According to media reports, the event will be held at the palace of the Eze Ndigbo, Alimosho and the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Igbo traditional rulers in Lagos State, Eze (Dr) Lawrence Nnamdi Eze, located at No. 28 Popoola Street, Ikotun, Lagos.

Eze (Dr) Lawrence Nnamdi Eze is the Chief Host while his wife, Ugoeze Udoamaka Eze, will be the Mother-of-the-day.

Top personalities expected to attend the epoch event include the Commissioner of Police, CP Augustines Akika, the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State, Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene, the Executive Chairman of Igando-Ikotun LCDA, Comrade, Lasisi Akinsanya, and the Awka Ambassadors Club, under the chairmanship of the President, Chief Chukwudi Ikegbune (AVFulukwe).

Other guests expected are Hon. Joke Orelope, Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), among others.

Eze Lawrence, who was a former board member of the Federal Medical Centre and holds the title Agunabo in Awka town,  Anambra State, stated the significance of the New Yam festival to the Ndigbo.

He stated that the event will be used to thank God for His mercy and protection and then take stock of various activities during the year, adding that the occasion will be used to recognize and honour Igbo sons and daughters, including friends, who have distinguished themselves in various fields.

He also added that there will be a display of the Igbo rich cultural heritage such as masquerades, dances, and others.
