NIGERIAN LOCAL DELICACY: Prepare lip-smacking Ofe Oha (Oha Soup) with these quick and easy steps

You should remember to use your fingers to pick the Oha leaves not slice with a knife, because rumour has it that if the leaves are chopped with a knife, the soup will end up bitter.

OHA SOUP or Ofe Oha (Ora) is a delicacy peculiar to the Eastern part of Nigeria, it can be prepared with raw palm kernel oil or palm oil. The people of Anambra state prepare their Oha soup with Akwu (raw palm kernel oil) while the people of Imo state use palm oil.

It should be noted that Oha soup isn’t exactly a go-to kind of soup because the main ingredient, that is, the Oha leaves, is a seasonal one. Oha Soup is also traditionally thickened with Cocoyam.

Babes, the great thing about eating Oha soup is that it is rich in nutrients, boosts your immune system, improves your eyesight, lowers blood sugar level, and makes your skin glow.

To prepare your Ofe Oha, you will need: 
Beef 
Stockfish 
Smoked Fish
Crayfish
Palm oil or Akwu
2-3 Scotch Bonnet pepper and onions
Pounded Cocoyam 
Uziza Leaves
Oha leaves
Seasoning
Salt

HOW TO PREPARE Oha SOUP (OFE Oha)

1.    Put water in a pot and place it on the fire.
2.    Add meat and blended onion. Allow it to cook until almost tender.
3.    Add your stockfish and smoked fish, and allow to cook to your own taste of tenderness.
4.    When it has cooked properly add Palm oil allow to cook for up to 3 minutes.
5.    Add your blended crayfish, pepper, and salt to taste. Cook for another few minutes.
6.    Add the blended/ pounded cocoyam paste to thicken the soup. Ensure you stir to avoid sticking to the pot. Cook for a few minutes.
7.    Add cube seasonings to taste 
8.    Then add your hand chopped Oha leaves.
9.    Allow for another 2 minutes, your Oha soup is ready.
10.    Serve with any swallow of your choice.
