A tricyclist, Opeyemi Animashaun, was on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a police officer and defecating inside his tricycle to avoid being arrested.
According to media reports, Animashaun, who resides at No. 1, Oremeji St., Apex AIT Road, Alagbado, Lagos, is charged with assault and causing a breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Insp Funmi Akinleye, told the court that the offence was committed on April 5, 2023, at Moshalashi Bus Stop, Egbeda Road, in the Egbeda-Akowonjo LCDA of Alimosho LGA.
Akinleye alleged that the defendant obstructed the free flow of traffic and was arrested by Insp Samson Ajewole, attached to the Gowon Estate Division.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant pushed Ajewole and, in a bid to escape arrest, defecated inside his tricycle.
The offence, he said, contravenes the provisions of sections 168 and 174 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, O. O Fajana, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum, and the case was adjourned until May 5, 2023, for mention.
