SOME Alimosho residents have claimed that they do not personally know the local government officials in their areas and that they simply voted them in for the love of their political party, not because they are aware of the aspirants.

While speaking with AlimoshoToday on the closeness of the local government to the citizens and their responsiveness, an elderly man said: "Do they exist? It is by their actions that you will know whether they exist or not. Is their presence felt? Go down this road, you will see how neglected and rejected Ogunlana Street is.

"I’m not blaming them because I’m not into politics, but I’ve never seen the councillor in charge of my area before. I just hear their names. All the votings I’ve been doing have been done for the party I love. I don’t know them. I don’t see them."

Addressing the same issue, a shop owner on Daramola Street told AlimoshoToday: "I'm not too interested, that’s why I don’t know about them. I’m not interested in meeting them but the bad roads that we have are repaired by some local officials.

"There was a ditch there that cars run into, and they have come to do it. To some extent, they are responsive", she concluded.

A Hausa watermelon seller simply said in pidgin, "Me, I no know the councillor wey dey for this place o. I no sabi anybody. The people wey dey Egbeda- wey be Yoruba people, na him I know."

A 70-year-old woman resident on Ogunlana Street for over 30 years claims she personally knows the councillor attached to her area but he has not been responsive. She also claimed the Covid-19 palliatives distributed were shared between the party and it did not reach the masses.

However, in response to the claims of Alimosho residents, the Senior Special Adviser on Health to the Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local government, Mr Lasisi Taiwo, told AlimoshoToday: "The Executive Chairman of Alimosho LGA, Hon. Jelili Sulaimon has liaised with the LSPWC on the roads in Alimosho Local Government and serious work is currently going on, as seen on Shasha Road, Raji Oba, Folarin, Alimosho Road, Akowonjo Road among others. Very soon, they will soon come to other areas because they work on schedule.

"Also, all the palliatives given during the lockdown were shared accordingly across the market men and women, the royal fathers,  CDC/CDAs, CAN (Christian Association of Nigeria), The Muslim Association, the youth group, the disabled and physically challenged, etc. They were given directly to these people so that it can get to the grassroots. Even the Igbo and Hausa groups also benefited from the palliatives all through."
