FLOODING: Residents decry deplorable condition of Akowonjo road, as flood takes over

Akowonjo Road is host to a lot of commercial banks; perhaps almost all the banks in Nigeria have a branch, including hotels, clubhouses, specialists hospitals, eateries, boutiques, and shopping malls, but whenever it rains, all social and commercial activities on this road come to a close.

FLOODING: Residents decry deplorable condition of Akowonjo road, as flood takes over

SOME residents of Akowonjo in the Egbeda-Akowonjo LCDA of Alimosho have decried the persistent and lingering flooding, which has continued to plague residents for years.

Information reaching Alimoshotoday  via a Facebook post by John Edobor, which has generated over 25 comments as of the time of the filing of this report, shows pictures of flooded streets and roads with a caption explaining the plight of users of that road.

It reads, "Akowonjo Rd is the pride of Alimosho local government. It is the most commercialized road in Alimosho local govt area. Akowonjo rd is a host to a lot of commercial banks; perhaps almost all the banks in Nigeria have a branch on Akowonjo Road.

"Hotels, clubhouses, specialists hospitals, eateries, boutiques, shopping malls and other commercial activities have their presence on Akowonjo Road. Akowonjo Road never sleeps due to its nightlife and other social activities that take place on this road daily.

"However, for almost 2 decades whenever it rains, all social and commercial activities on this road come to a close due to the flooding being experienced by those that reside and do business on this road. The rains are here again."

Reacting to the post, residents of the area equally decried the situation, with calls on the state government to do something about it.

Marcus Blessed Mark said, "At this point, it has become abundantly clear the local government only sees that road as a cash cow to get money and never does anything about it. Every year, we post, but what has changed? Absolutely nothing! The joy I have is that those who support this government won’t be spared today if they ply this road. See the Lagos they built."
