The Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon Jelili Sulaimon, has implored youths to let peace reign.
In a statement released over the weekend, the Executive Chairman commiserated with families affected during the #EndSARS protest and acknowledged that the protest held in Alimosho was one of the most peaceful in the State.
Here's the full text of the statement:
"Our heartfelt condolences go to the families of the heroes and genuine protesters who lost their precious ones and properties during the course of protests in ALIMOSHO, LAGOS STATE and NIGERIA at large. We pray to the Almighty to give their families the fortitude to bear the loss.
"Alimosho protest was one of the most peaceful protests, well coordinated with the most intelligent youths before the hijack.
"We won't but appreciate the efforts of our Governor; Babajide Sanwo-Olu in conveying the #5 for 5 demands of our protesting youths to the President. We appreciate the steadfastness of the youth in pursuing these demands and we give kudos to ALIMOSHO Youths for withdrawing from the protest immediately hoodlums hijacked the and turned it to bloodbath where scores were settled, innocent Alimosho residents' properties vandalised and our inheritance vandalised and burnt.
"THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW!
"This is my Alimosho, your Alimosho and our Alimosho.
Advanced democracy with all inclusiveness is the panacea for more development and growth. Hence it is time to STOP the DESTRUCTIONS of the little we have, protect it jealously and guide it from being destroyed.
"The State Government has spoken, the Federal Government has spoken, Eminent Nigerians have also spoken. We need to heed to their words of wisdom and start clearing off the debris from the bonfires across Alimosho, unblock the roads for easy passage and protect our inheritance
"Alimosho is a pacesetter, envy to many and our resilience in solving our differences during hard and trying periods is envious to many who see our unity during crisis, mayhem and hard times as commendable efforts and sacrifice on our part.
"Once again, we call on our youths to continue to stand on the path of truth, protect the lives and propertyof Alimosho residents, protect our inheritance and clear the road blocks for ease of vehicular movement."
