According to the engineer the road, which was completed on Saturday, was unavoidably delayed because of the rains which made it difficult for materials to arrive on time.

Samuel who spoke on behalf of the Metropolitan Construction Company Limited, Apapa said: "What we just did is maintenance. The rains delayed us from getting the materials across, coupled with the traffic everywhere."

"We were lucky to have favourable weather on Saturday which enabled us to complete the job. However, we need to wait as long as Friday to enable it to dry up and be strengthened and reach the heavy-duty status against trucks and lorries," Samuel elucidated.

Commenting further on the newly-completed road maintenance, Engineer Samuel said: "We have to make sure it dries up neatly. We have also blocked it to disallow commercial motorcyclists who manoeuvre through it, to ensure it is not tampered with."
