Despite LASG shutting down markets for anti-APC campaign, women group takes PDP campaign to 6 Alimosho markets

The state government had in October 2022 shut down two markets in Alimosho following Jandor’s campaign in the area, sparking widespread condemnation.

A group of women, under the aegis of Funke Akindele Women Forum (FAWOF) went around some markets in the Alimosho LGA on Friday, January 27, 2023, to campaign for the Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Dr Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran aka Jandor and his Deputy, Ms Funke Akindele, in the forthcoming March 11, 2023, election.

Recall that in October 2022, the PDP in Lagos state condemned, in strong terms, the closure of two markets in the Alimosho Local Government Area following the party’s Guber campaign in the area.

The party shared their thoughts in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Hon. Hakeem Amode, who listed the markets to include: Council Market in Idimu and Pudaki (Akeja) Market in Ile Iwe, Egbe.

However, these did not deter the women, as Mrs Kemi Olubajo, Coordinator of FAWOF, who spoke to journalists during the exercise, said that it was imperative for the women to seek a change of government in the state based on what she described as “unfriendly policies of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government.”

According to Olubajo, “We are here to sensitise people to pick up their PVCs so that they can vote for Dr Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran aka Jandor and Funke Akindele as Governor and Deputy Governor of Lagos State respectively.

“We are women that have come together to say that we are ready to vote for the PDP and vote APC out in Lagos State and at the federal level."

The markets visited by the group included Iyana Ipaja, Ayobo, Egbeda, Ikotun, Idimu, and Pipeline markets, where they were received by enthusiastic market men and women.
