BUILDING COLLAPSE: Lagos Government seals 'distressed' building in Idimu

IN a proactive manner aimed at curtailing the rising incidences of building collapse in the state, the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) on Monday, October 24, 2022, sealed a distressed three-floor structure located at Yusuf Bishi Street, in the Egbe-Idimu LCDA of Alimosho Local Government Area.

Explaining the reason behind the sealing of the property, the LASBCA General Manager, Gbolahan Oki, who was represented by the Director of Enforcement and Compliance Unit, Olusoji Olaopa, during the monitoring exercise stated that the building was sealed after it failed the Non-Destructive Test (NDT).

Oki further added that occupants have been evacuated after a quit/evacuation notice had been served, adding that plans have been put in place to demolish the building.

The LASBCA General Manager then declared that over seven other illegal and non-conforming buildings were also sealed due to various contraventions ranging from, building without approval, no letter of authorisation to commence construction from the agency, and breaking of government seals, amongst others
