A 25-year-old man, Tobi Alani, on Tuesday, appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for alleged theft of roofing sheets valued at N570,000.
According to the Prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, Alani committed the alleged offence at at Idimu area of Lagos State between February 22 and February 28.
He said that the defendant stole 387 square metres of roofing sheets, valued at N570, 000, belonging to the complainant, Mr Ahmed Ojuolape.
According to Aigbokhan, the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 which provides a penalty of three years imprisonment for stealing.
The defendant, whose residential address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr E. O. Ogunkanmi granted the defendant N500,000 bail and with two sureties in like sum.
He ordered that the sureties must be resident in the magisterial district.
He also ordered that the defendant must show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned till April 26 for hearing.
