Two passengers fall into lagoon in Third Mainland Bridge accident

TWO yet-to-be-identified passengers were reportedly flung into the lagoon and many others were injured during an accident on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State on Wednesday.

A video shared on Instagram on Wednesday shows the moment officers of the Nigerian Marine Police were carrying out a rescue operation for the two victims.

The Lagos Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, said in a statement that the driver of the vehicle, who was speeding, swerved off the road and hit the bridge railings.

He also stated that the impact forcefully pushed the two passengers off the bus into the Lagos lagoon.9209

“The victims, an adult male and female, are being searched by the Marine Police. The injured have been evacuated to a nearby hospital,” he said.

Recall that the Federal Government reopened the Third Mainland Bridge on April 4, 2024,  after months of repair work, setting the speed limit at 80 km/hr.
