Rasheed Teslim-Balogun, son of legendary footballer and coach, Teslim Balogun, has on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, officially joined the 2023 governorship race in Lagos State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, is named after his father by the Lagos State Government as a football icon. Teslim Balogun, a native of Lagos, got the nickname, ‘Thunder’, because of his powerful strikes on the football pitch. His son, Rasheed Teslim-Balogun, visited the Deputy National Chairman (South) of the PDP, Mr. Taofeek Arapaja, and the party’s National Vice Chairman (South West), Mr. Soji Adagunodo, in the first week of 2022.

Both Taofeek Arapaja and Soji Adagunodo expressed belief in the ability of the engineer's son to lead Nigeria's commercial centre. The Peoples Democratic Party want to further consolidate on the expected electoral victories for PDP in the off-season governorship polls in Ekiti and Osun state, this year, as well as governorship elections in Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo in 2023.

Rasheed Teslim-Balogun said he is confident that the PDP will oust the incumbent APC government in Lagos and regain control of Nigeria's South West states.
