Police detain man for defiling three biological daughters in Lagos

THE Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest of a 35-year-old man, Afolabi Femi, for allegedly defiling his three biological daughters by sexually penetrating their private parts with fingers.

Media reports state that the incident happened at Akoronfayo Street off Fadeyi Road, Onipanu, Lagos, where they reside. The survivors aged 5, 8, and 9 were severally molested by their father who tampered with their private parts whenever their mother was not around while warning them not to tell her or anyone about what he was doing to them.

However, when they were unable to bear it any longer, they told their mom everything and she confronted her husband over the allegations by their children but he seriously assaulted and injured her in the process. The matter was then reported to the Police at the Ilupeju Division, after which he was arrested and detained at the Police Station for interrogation over the alleged offence.

During interrogation, he was said to have initially denied but when his children confronted him before the Police, he became speechless and could not deny it any longer. The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment if he is found guilty by the Court.

When he was arraigned, the Court did not take his plea following a motion moved by the prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice since the alleged offence was a capital offence with maximum punishment.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubenije, ordered his remand in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP. The matter was subsequently adjourned till March 7, 2023, for the report of the DPP’s advice to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
