THE Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, commissioned the newly reconstructed Vetland Junior Grammar School, Agege, Lagos which also included a newly-built containerised technology-driven modular classroom block.

While speaking at the unveiling, Mr Sanwo-Olu said the nine-classroom block was built to replace the decrepit concrete structures in Vetland Junior Grammar School, a government-owned model college.

“This modular building is made up of nine regular classrooms, three laboratories and four staff rooms. All of these spaces are powered by solar panels, which means a guaranteed power supply to enable teaching and learning under the most conducive conditions.

“All the classrooms are equipped with interactive touch-screens, and all the students have been given electronic tablets to aid both in-class and virtual learning.

“The school has also been provided with a basketball court, and a five aside football pitch to encourage their extra-curricular activities.

“So far, our administration has constructed more than 800 new classroom blocks in the public school system of Lagos State, supplied about 150,000 units of furniture to public schools across all six education districts of the state, while also completing the rehabilitation of about 200 public primary and secondary schools, with several others ongoing.

“Our goal is to build schools of the future, public schools that are driven by cutting-edge technology and that can compete favourably with the best schools anywhere in the world,” he said.1618

He then congratulated all the 620 pupils who were beneficiaries of the state-of-the-art school, adding that children in public schools deserve the best quality of education to prepare them as part of a solution provider in the 21st century.

He also added; “We have also improved security in our public schools by installing watch towers, perimeter fences, panic bells and flood lights, and have prioritised the comfort of boarding students through the provision of beddings and other necessary items.

“As the beneficiaries can attest to, the welfare and training of teaching and administrative staff in our public schools have received significant attention as well,” Mr Sanwo-Olu said.

He urged administrators, teachers, and pupils of the model college to take full ownership of the facilities provided and ensure the infrastructure was maintained.

The newly built Vetland Junior Secondary School Agege is built on a gross floor area of 1,503m². Facility details of the newly built school include; 15 classrooms, 24 students toilets, 12 staff and admin toilets, 84 Units of Monocrystalline Solar Panels with battery bank, and a 5-aside football pitch with Astroturf and multi-sport court which can be used for a variety of games, such as volleyball, long tennis, badminton, and basketball were also constructed for the school.1619
