LASG warns Lagos residents to prepare for 300-day rainfall in 2022

Rainfall from neighbouring states like Ogun and Osun states and dam releases and rivers flowing into the state would be monitored.

THE Lagos State Government has informed the residents of the state to prepare for about 250 to 300 days of rainfall across the 20 local government areas during this year’s rainy season.

This information was disclosed by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tunji Bello on Thursday, March 31, 2022, while addressing reporters at a news conference for the 2022 Seasonal Climate Predictions (SCP) and Social Implications for Lagos State, held in Alausa, Ikeja.

He said the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET), at the beginning of every year, usually forecasts the expected rainfall and temperature patterns spanning the entire country, while the results are published as the Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP).

The commissioner affirmed that the SCP for Lagos State signified that the onset dates ranged between March 17 at the earliest and April 6, at the latest, while the cessation dates ranged between November 30 and December 5 with the annual rainfall amount for the state expected to be about 2700mm.

He mentioned that rainfall from neighbouring states like Ogun and Osun States will be monitored, adding that dam releases and rivers flowing into the State would also be monitored.
