THE Lagos State Government has taken enforcement action against street hawkers and handcart pushers in different areas of the State.
According to media reports, the Lagos State Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed this in a statement on Thursday, November 30, 2023, with some of those arrested being interrogated and prosecuted.
“As I instructed, Special Squad Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC)/kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) today (Thursday) took enforcement action against street hawkers and handcart pushers hindering the free flow of traffic and constituting environmental nuisances,” Wahab wrote.
He added that the arrests took place at Iyana Ipaja, Oshodi, Obanibasiri, Airport Road, 7&8, Okota, Oke Afa, Jakande Gate, Ijegun Road, Ikotun, Igando, and Egbeda areas.
In the process, some of the environmental defaulters were arrested and taken to the LAGESC/KAI headquarters in Oshodi for interrogation and prosecution.
The Commissioner reiterated that Lagos State has zero tolerance for defaulters of the law.
