Lagos, Abuja EFCC offices recover over $386m in 2021

The recovered funds are in various currencies including Bitcoin and Ethereum.

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday, January 10, 2022 said it recovered the sums of ₦152,088,698,751.64, $386,220,202.84, £1,182,519.75, €156,246.761, 723,310.00 Saudi riyal, 1,900.00 South African rands, and 1,400 Canadian dollars in 2021. 

The anti-graft commission revealed that it also recovered 5,36957319 Bitcoin and 0.09012 Ethereum between January and December 2021. 

A statement by the EFCC Head, Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, explains that the funds were, directly and indirectly, recovered for the federal, state and local governments, corporate organisations, and individuals, who were victims of crimes such as fraud. 

The EFCC headquarters in Abuja recovered ₦67, 249, 744, 994.89, $375,662,223.59 and £1,151,539.75 from the aggregate sums, while the Lagos office recovered the sums of ₦70,315,611,260.52, $9,286,497.83, and £21,500. 

The EFCC promises to intensify its efforts to ensure that perpetrators of economic and financial crimes within commercial hubs such as Lagos.
