IFELODUN planks and building materials market on Owo street, Agege, Markaz in Agege, was razed by fire on the night of Friday, January 28th, 2022.

Many pictures and video footages have been posted on social media by residents of the market showing how the fire consumed an unknown amount of commodities yesterday night.

The Lagos State Fire service has since moved into action to put out the fire while officers of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have been deployed to maintain law and order around the market's environs.

It has been reported that the fire started around 11:30pm on Friday and has burnt a number of cars along with merchandise in the plank market.

A resident told journalists that: “The fire was much and till now, we cannot say this is the cause. People living in the environment tried their best even before the arrival of fire servicemen but everywhere was burnt down.

“About ten cars were also affected and as you can see, the fire servicemen are coming in now but cannot do it all alone.

“All we can do right now is to pray for the owners of the plank market because the damage is much”.

Some sources claim that goods worth hundreds of millions of naira were just recently purchased by shop owners who have now had their goods reduced to ashes.

The market leaders and the shop owners are yet to make any public statement about their losses, even as they try to recover what is left of the fire incident.
