THE Dangote Petroleum Refinery, regarded as the world's largest single-stream refinery constructed in Lagos, Nigeria, has produced its first batch of refined petroleum products.
This was stated in a press release issued by the refinery's owner company, Dangote Petroleum Refinery, on the social networking site X (formerly Twitter).
"Dangote Petroleum Refinery has commenced production of diesel and aviation kerosene," the press release noted.
Alhaji Aliko Dangote (Founder and owner of industrial conglomerate Dangote Group) appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support in the realisation of the project, as well as Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and all Nigerians who assisted in the realisation of this historic task.
The refinery, located in Nigeria's economic capital, Lagos, is designed to process 650,000 barrels of crude oil daily. 
It should be noted that Nigeria is Africa's largest oil producer (1.3 million barrels per day). However, until recently, a significant portion of petroleum products was imported into the country because the existing refineries were idle due to repairs. Dangote is Nigeria's richest entrepreneur, until recently, mainly involved in cement production.
However, a few years ago, he invested heavily in constructing a refinery that would meet Nigeria's basic needs for petroleum products. A facility was erected with a single unit performing all cracking, distillation, and refining operations at a cost of about $19 billion.
