BREAKING: Ernest Shonekan dies at 85

The head of the 1993 interim government died in Lagos.

CHIEF Ernest Shonekan, head of the short-lived Interim National Government in 1993, has died today January 11, 2022. 

While the cause of his death is yet unknown, it is important to note that Chief Shonekan was a former chairman of UAC and its first Nigerian Chief Executive Officer. He died in Lagos at the age of 85. 

Ernest Shonekan headed the interim Nigerian Government between August 26th and November 17, 1993. He hailed from Abeokuta. 

The Shonekan government was the shortest government in Nigeria ever when it was ousted by Chief of Army Staff, General Sani Abacha, on November 17, 1993.
