THE Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, has revealed that only 3.42 percent of the targeted population have been fully vaccinated against the Coronavirus disease in the state as of Monday, January 17th, 2022.

Professor Abayomi wrote this on his official Twitter account while giving the vaccination updates on Lagos state. He noted that 2,195,779 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in Lagos as of January 12th, 2022.

The commissioner said that 3.42 percent of the targeted population had already received two doses of the vaccines.

According to Professor Akin Abayomi, 13,895,199 more doses of vaccines must be administered for the state to achieve its herd immunity target.

Nonetheless, the total number of COVID-19 deaths in Nigeria has increased from 3,095 to 3,103.

By the morning of Monday, January 17th, 2022, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported a backlog of 8 deaths from Lagos alone. Lagos State remains the country’s epicentre of the spread of the virus. The commissioner for health urges the public to get vaccinated for their own safety.
