YOUTH EMPOWERMENT: Sanwo-Olu boasts of equipping one million Lagosians with coding skills

The Governor also hinted at plans to build the biggest technology hub in West Africa at Yaba under the Knowledge, Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship project.

GOVERNOR Babajide Sanwo-Olu has declared that one million residents of Lagos State have been equipped with coding skills as part of efforts to advance opportunities for youths in the state.

The Governor said this, on Monday, October 17, 2022, during his address at the Nigeria Sustainable Development Goals Fintech Hackathon Finals held at the Microsoft Garage, Ikoyi.

Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by his Special Adviser on SDGs and Investments, Solape Hammond, described the event as a deliberate effort to harness the innovative capabilities of young people.

He said, “Our administration is committed to making Lagos the fortress of the digital enterprise, an urban hub of innovation and commerce as well as a fertile market for investment.

“Through the Eko Digital Initiative, the largest education technology initiative in Africa, the government is equipping one million Lagos residents with the knowledge of coding, while over 344,000 students in primary and secondary schools have received basic computer training and an introduction to coding, using scratch programming.

“One of the major steps we are taking is the plan to build the biggest technology hub in West Africa at Yaba under the Knowledge, Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship project.”
