TRAGIC: Lagos records 78 cases of road accidents in January, 26 deaths

In Alimosho, reported cases of road accidents in January claimed five lives, the last being that of Ikotun, just as the LGA accounted for the highest number of road accidents in Lagos in 2022.

TRAGIC: Lagos records 78 cases of road accidents in January, 26 deaths

THE Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has given a breakdown of road accidents that occurred in the state in the first month of 2023. 

From a summary report posted on the social media page of the Lagos State Government, LASEMA said that available reports from the month of January 2023, show that a total of 78 incidents were recorded.

The Agency, giving further details, added that the highest number of deaths recorded at a single incident was nine, while a total of 26 deaths were recorded at scenes where the accident occurred.

Alimosho was not left out of this number, as reported cases of road accidents in January claimed five lives, the last being that of Ikotun. 

Tragedy struck on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, in the Ikotun area of the Igando-Ikotun LCDA in the Alimosho LGA, as a fully-loaded container truck collided with three tricycles, locally called Keke Marwa and crushed one of them killing two people instantly while four others were rescued.

On Monday, January 23, 2023, two ad-hoc female health workers and a man were killed in a road accident around Alhaji Ede Bus Stop, along LASU Road, Igando, in the Igando-Ikotun LCDA of Alimosho LGA at about noon.

Also, in a ranking done by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Alimosho accounted for the highest number of road accidents in 2022, with a total of 239 cases out of1,682.
