DESPITE the acceptability and perceived widespread popularity of the Labour Party (LP)'s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, there are indications that the party will not be fielding any candidate for available seats in the National Assembly in the Alimosho LGA, ahead of the 2023 general elections.

It should be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on September 20, 2022, released the final list of candidates nominated for Presidential and Vice-Presidential, Senatorial, and House of Representative positions. On October 4, 2022, the electoral body released the final list of candidates nominated for state elections (governorship, deputy governorship and state assemblies).

From the list, it is clear that the Labour Party has many slots that would not be filled for the elections. The National Assembly houses 109 Senatorial and 360 House of Representatives seats.

The party will not contest 24 constituencies in Lagos State comprising Agege, Ajeromi/Ifelodun, Alimosho, Amuwo-Odofin, Apapa, Badagry, Epe, Eti-Osa, Ibeju Lekki, Ifako/Ijaiye, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Kosofe, Lagos Island I, Lagos Island II, Lagos Mainland, Mushin I, Mushin II, Ojo, Oshodi/Isolo I, Oshodi/Isolo II, Shomolu, Surulere I and Surulere II respectively.
