In politics, 'cancer' is better than 'malaria'!

"There is no relationship with anybody again. The only relationship we have on 11 March is umbrella. Nothing like broom. Broom had ended Saturday, last week." - Nyesom Wike.

THE intrigues surrounding the emergence of Bola Tinubu as the President-elect of Nigeria has continued to take new twists and turns, as more details emerge.

Tinubu's victory in 3 out of 5 states ruled by PDP G-5 Governors is still shocking to many, but not those who have over the years come to understand the underbelly of Nigerian politics and 'politricks.'

Two days ago, the Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, APC, has said that Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, was instrumental to the victory of its candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Rivers State.

The PCC in Port Harcourt, through Chief Tony Okocha said without the efforts of the governor that their Candidate would not have secured up to the 25% vote which is the constitutional requirement expected from the state. They also promised to return the Governor's favour come Saturday, March 11.

This is not surprising as Saturday's polls showed Wike worked for Tinubu, true to his threat not to support PDP's Atiku Abubakar.

In Rivers State, prior to the final collation, the APC candidate had polled 148,979 votes, while the LP candidate polled 169,414 votes. But when results from Wike’s LGA of Obio-Akpor came in, the figures changed drastically, with the Governor's LGA delivering 80,239 votes for Tinubu and a mere 3,829 for Peter Obi and a paltry 368 votes for Atiku of the PDP.

On Friday, In Oyo State, Wike subtly confirmed insinuations he worked for the APC on Saturday, wherein he said, “There’s no relationship with anybody again."

“The only relationship we have on 11 March is umbrella. Nothing like broom. Broom had ended Saturday, last week,” he added.

Oyo State, governed by a member of the PDP G-5 Governors also voted massively for Tinubu. Tinubu polled 449,884 to defeat Atiku at 182,977 and Peter Obi at 99,110.

Politics! Recall that same Rivers Governor had in a BBC interview described the PDP as having 'malaria' while the APC had 'cancer' and as such he could not be associated with them.

“Is the APC a party? A party that has killed Nigerians? See, let me tell you, the APC has stage four cancer and when doctors say you have stage four cancer, just tell your God that it has happened as you can never survive. That is what the APC has. So it will be impossible for me to defect to catch their cancer.”

One can only wonder when Malaria became so deadly, as compared to cancer. Only in politics!
