FUEL PRICE HIKE: Commuters groan, filling stations closed, long queues resurface on Alimosho roads

THE hike in the price of petroleum products in Lagos has taken its toll on commuters and commercial drivers in Alimosho.

Commuters hurrying off to work in the early hours of today Tuesday, November 22, 2022, have to add, at least, a #100 to what they would have paid before, depending on their destination. This is not surprising, as in this case, the hike in fares became evident over the weekend.

On their part, commercial drivers said the hike in fuel price left them no choice but to also increase their transportation fares, as they said they will not be able to "meet up," if they still used the previous rate. A korope (minibus) driver pleaded for understanding on the part of passengers who now have to pay more than usual.

Alimoshotoday's correspondent, who monitored movement reports, said that Egbeda-Igando, formerly #150/200 is now #300. Egbeda-Iyana-Iba, formerly #300 is now #400, and Igando-Iyana-Iba, formerly #100 is now #200.

Also, this morning, passengers were left stranded on the road, as only a few buses plied the Egbeda-Iyana-Iba route, at increased rates commuters couldn't afford.

On the fuel issue, prices differed from filling station to filling station, as some charged between #195-#220, leading to long queues at petrol stations drivers considered to be cheaper.

For example, at the filling station at Obadore junction, gallons were seen lined up at the station; it was on a first-come, first-served basis, but at the time, there was no attendant to dispense products.

Our correspondent also observed that the following stations along the Egbeda-Iyana-Iba route were either closed or open, but did not dispense products. They are Mobil, TechnOil, MRS, Enyo, Urbanwell, DP, Conoil, MOJ, Oando, and IIG, amongst others.
