ELECTION POSTPONEMENT: Enough room for us to ponder over unity, peace in Alimosho, Lagos at large

"Elections will come and go! Politicians will come and go! But Alimosho, Lagos, and Nigeria will remain! Please, let us all use the next week to reflect on the need to conduct ourselves peacefully in the build-up to March 18, during and after the gubernatorial elections, particularly."- Kaokab.

WE were all set with our PVCs to hit the polls on Saturday, but then the electoral umpire came up with a resolution to postpone the elections by one week, which will now see the polls held on Saturday, March 18, 2023.

With the gubernatorial and the other elections now postponed, we have one week to reflect on events that have characterised the polity within the past week, following the declaration of the presidential results.

The APC defeat in Lagos by the Labour Party, unfortunately, was a shock in Alimosho, aka Tinubu's country, and Lagos at large. This led to incidents of violence meted out on our Igbo brothers by faceless miscreants.

This does not speak well of Alimosho, a community known to be accommodating. The attack on Igbo businesses in Ikotun and other parts of Lagos is, to say the least shameful, disgraceful, and embarrassing.

Provocative statements and subtle, even direct threats were issued and circulated on social media. These acts are off-the-point and very unnecessary. They are not good for the Lagos image and they are threats to our co-existence as a diverse but united people.

Elections will come and go! Politicians will come and go! But Alimosho, Lagos, and Nigeria will remain! Please, let us all use the next week to reflect on the need to conduct ourselves peacefully in the build-up to March 18, during and after the gubernatorial elections, particularly.
