THE Member of the Federal House of Representatives representing the Alimosho Federal Constituency, Hon. Ganiyu Adele Ayuba (Mayor KK), has moved a motion for the rehabilitation of the dilapidated roads in Gowon Estate and Federal Low-Cost Housing Estate, also known as Shagari Estate, in the Constituency.
While speaking on the floor of the Green Chamber on Thursday, February 29, 2024, Ayuba stated that "Alimosho Federal Constituency is the most populated in the nation, but ironically, the most neglected."
He complained about the worsening conditions of the Estate roads due to neglect and abandonment by the Agencies responsible for their maintenance and the negative effects on the lives of constituents.
"The deplorable state of the roads has caused pain and agony to residents, particularly during emergencies, resulting in the loss of productive times, avoidable expenses on vehicle maintenance, and depreciation of the value of properties within the estates," he noted.
He urged for necessary actions to be taken to avoid further damage.
"Unless urgent steps are taken to rehabilitate the roads in the affected Estates, the situation could worsen, thus resulting in devastating consequences," he added.
In its resolution, the House of Representatives directed the Committee on Housing and Habitat to visit Gowon and Shagari Estates in the Alimosho Federal Constituency to assess the level of degradation of the road network and make budgetary provisions for rehabilitation.
They also urged the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the Federal Housing Authority, and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to commence rehabilitation and reconstruction of the dilapidated roads in Gowon Estate and the Federal Low-Cost Housing Estate in the Alimosho Federal Constituency of Lagos State.
