THE Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has again extended it's industrial action, which is already racing towards its sixth month, by an additional four-week period.
The decision was conveyed in a statement issued on Monday, August 1, 2022, and signed by the National President, Professor Emmanuel Osedeke. The decision is coming after a meeting of the union’s National Executive Council (NEC).
Conveying the strike extension notice, Professor Osodeke said in a statement, “Following extensive deliberations and taking cognisance of government’s past failures to abide by its own timelines in addressing issues raised in the 2020 FGN/ASUU Memorandum of Action (MOA), NEC resolved that the strike be rolled over for four weeks to give government more time to satisfactorily resolve all the outstanding issues. The role-over strike action is with effect from 12.01 am on Monday, 1st August, 2022.”
ASUU has been on strike since February 14, and has over the months rolled the strike action following unresolved disputes between the Union and the Federal Government on issues bothering on the controversial IPPIS, the 2009 agreement, poor welfare of members, among other grievances.
