IN its determination to curb the menace of drug abuse within society, Alimosho Professionals, a group of like minds in various fields of human endeavour, celebrated its first anniversary with a lecture on “Drug Abuse: Taming the Scourge, the Home and Societal Responsibilities.”
Nigeria Updates reports that the event, which was held on Friday, April 28, 2023, at Kelly Ann Hotel, Egbeda, in the Egbeda-Akowonjo LCDA of Alimosho LGA targeted teenagers and youths within Alimosho and its environment.
While delivering the welcome address, the National Chairman, Alimosho Professionals, Mr Carlo Babatunde Shonupe, welcomed everyone present at the anniversary lecture while also expressing his concern about the menace of drug abuse in society, especially Alimosho.
Speaking on the aims of the event, the Convener of Alimosho Professionals, Olori Anike Oluwabukunolami, reiterated that the group is aimed at making Alimosho a prototype of what a good community should be.
“Our aim is to make Alimosho a prototype of what a good community should be. Gone are the days when society trains up a child together. An adage in Yoruba says ‘Four eyes birth a child but thousands train the child the way he should go’.
"I know it’s not easy, the government can’t do everything but I believe if we can bond and correct these children with love they will do great," she said.
The guest speaker, Mr Kizito Nwogu, who’s the Team Lead of Dogman Petworld, spoke about the negative effect of the use of illicit substances among the youth and teenagers in Nigeria and how they are been influenced by society.
Also speaking from the biblical perspective of psychoactive substances, Pastor Alabi Beloved, commended and encourage the group to continue preaching the eradication of hard substance intake and also plead for more public awareness from both government and individuals.
Dignitaries present at the event include, HRM Oba Babatunde Ogunronmbi, Onishasha of Shasha kingdom, Chief Oludare Ikumapayi, Proprietor of Bejide Group of Schools, CEO Zaris Fashion House, among others.
High points of the event were the award of scholarships to three students, the induction of 13 new members into the Alimosho Professionals, and the unveiling of a new Patron for the body.
