THE Member-elect, Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Alimosho Constituency II, Hon. Kehinde Olaide Joseph, has thrown his weight behind Rt. Hon (Dr) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, adding that he deserves to lead the Lagos State House of Assembly again as its Speaker.
In a statement issued on Saturday, June 3, 2023, Kehinde Joseph said Obasa has continued to advocate the building of strong and functional institutions, which would, in the long run, sustain the commonwealth of the people.
He said aside from being the highest ranking member amongst the Lawmaker-elect, Obasa, who enjoys support across the House, possesses the skills, knowledge, and charisma to lead the House once again to its desired height.
In his words: "As the Lagos State House of Assembly prepares to elect its leadership, who will pilot its affairs for the next four years; there's no need to look elsewhere, rather reelect Obasa and other leaders, who will partner and work in synergy with the Executive arm of Government in order to achieve the desired Greater Lagos Rising.
"We all know the Lagos State House of Assembly, a 'House that is above the common standards of Excellence', is a strategic arm of Government that work harmoniously with the other arms for the development and growth of the State, hence the need to reelect Obasa and others who are highly experienced and who are committed to ideals of the Greater Lagos Rising and THEMES Agenda.
"As a concerned Nigerian and member, I strongly believe that Obasa will continue to foster mutual and effective working relationships with the Executive and other arms. This becomes necessary especially if we really want to avoid a frosty relationship between the Executive and Legislative Arm of government, as witnessed in other states.
"As a member of the State Assembly, I am particularly interested in the candidacy of Obasa, to speak again, given the fact that he is a man and leader, I have enjoyed a close working relationship with him for four years as a first timer, and I know what the House and I, as a newcomer achieved under his leadership. Obasa, has the pedigree, skills, vast network, and charisma to continue leading the House. The House must be led by a person with considerable legislative experience and expertise to preside over its affairs and also weather the storm at any given time. Obasa, clearly fits the bill again, no doubt, his antecedents in the House speak voluminously.
"Aside from being the longest serving member in the House, which clearly gives him more advantages, Obasa is an embodiment of loyalty, who has kept faith with the Progressives since 2003 when he was first elected into the House. A very consistent politician, who shows leadership traits that lure other opposition members in the House to join the Progressives, by playing a pivotal role in protecting the interest of the ruling party and that of the general public.
"I and my fellow colleagues are casting our votes for Rt. Hon (Dr) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, a true Progressive, and a highly detribalised Nigerian, who has received endorsement even from all the newly elected lawmakers. This time, he will not only take the House to enviable heights but will also give Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu the much-needed cooperation to deliver on his programmes and THEMES Agenda for Lagosians in achieving a Greater Lagos Rising.”
He also described Obasa as a leader and a legislator, endowed with exceptional leadership skills, legislative aptitude, uncommon problem-solving skills, masterful logic, and foresight.
