COVID-19: Lagos records highest cases of the week

AS the total confirmed cases of the deadly coronavirus exceeds 50,000 in Nigeria, Lagos has recorded the highest number of confirmed cases since the beginning of this week.

The least this week was 87 as at Monday, August 17, 2020, according to the briefing by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, (NCDC). 

According to the latest update released in the early hours of today, Lagos has recorded an unusual increase which takes the recently recorded cases to 235.

Abuja recorded 44, Kaduna: 41, Borno 33, Plateau 28, Abia: 13, Edo:13, Rivers: 12, Imo: 11, Oyo: 10, Kano: 9, Kwara: 7, Enugu: 5,  Kastina: 5, Gombe: 4, Ogun: 4,  Nasarawa 1, Zamfara 1.

Today's record is a sharp contrast against yesterday's where Zamfara (186) surpassed Lagos (172) by a margin of 14.

Lagos, though, has been infamous for recording highest cases, with total cases of 17, 092. A staggering number which surpasses at least 33 states put together in their total confirmed cases, with Kogi recording only 5.

COVID-19 watch by the African Independent Television (AIT) which hosted Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, the Director-General of NCDC, has also expressed concerns about the surging number of cases especially as international flights resume next week.
