RESIDENTS of Old Akesan Road at Ikotun-Igando Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Alimosho Local Government Area (LGA) of Lagos have lamented over the poor state of roads in the area, which often causes several accidents and claiming lives of the locals.

Old Akesan Road cuts in from LASU-Isheri Road and connects Alhaji Yekinni Olanrewaju Street on the left, Adele Igbalaye Street on the right, and connects Isuti Road after 15 minutes drive.

According to the residents, the Old Akesan Road and its closest contact routes are in shambles such that people get killed in fatal accidents, whether it rains or not.

When AlimoshoToday visited the road, a resident and business operator, Mrs Comfort Adeniyi, revealed that "at least three accidents happen on the road in a day."
She said: "When we want to cross the road, we stay far away because at least three accidents happen here a day on Old Akesan Road, Opposite Health Centre."

"Even our little children, when we send them on errands across the road, and we hear boom! Suddenly, we often have shocks as to whether it is the children we sent on errands who have been knocked down," she added.

According to her, when the accidents happen, unsuspecting pedestrians and shop-owners are often affected. "We beg the government to remember us in this area too. The pain is too much, " she pleaded.

Another resident, simply identified as Mrs Adijat said: "We appeal to our government over Old Akesan Road near the Health Centre because the road is very terrible. In fact, it is directly opposite my shop."

"When accidents happen," Mrs Adijat said, "it is always very disastrous."

Mrs Adijat recalled, "there was a day a motorist lost balance and pressed down a commercial tricycle, crushing it into pieces."

"We appeal to the government to come to our rescue," she stressed.
