The White House is considering distributing face masks to all Americans, a Biden administration official confirmed to Forbes, as public health experts call for people to wear better-quality or multiple face masks to protect against the more contagious coronavirus variants now spreading throughout the country.
The Biden administration’s Covid-19 response team is weighing sending face masks to Americans and considering the logistics, NBC News first reported, but has not yet made a final decision or sent the idea to Biden for approval.
It’s still undecided whether the masks sent would be cloth masks or disposable ones, NBC reports, as well as how many each household would be sent.
Four Democratic lawmakers sent a letter to Biden on Monday urging him to send medical masks through the U.S. Postal Service and make them available at pick-up locations across the country.
