Chelsea's new goalie, Edouard Mendy, has picked up a thigh injury during a training session with his country, Senegal and has returned to London for assessment.

Mendy joined Chelsea for a £22 million deal last month from Rennes and kept his first clean sheet in his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace.

The 28-year-old was on international duty for Senegal where he sustained a thigh injury.

"The goalkeeper sustained an injury to his right thigh during training on Wednesday and had a medical examination in a hospital in Rabat, where Senegal are due to play Morocco tonight," a statement from the Senegalese Football Federation explained.

"Mendy has since returned to Chelsea where he will undergo further examinations."

With Mendy out, Head Coach, Frank Lampard will have to make do with Kepa or Caballero.

Mendy was signed to replace Kepa after conceding goals due to his own error.
