Bettinelli has been a free agent since leaving relegated Fulham at the end of June following the expiration of his contract. He reportedly turned down Aston Villa to join the reigning Champions League winners.
The 29-year-old is set to sign a two-year deal with the club and will complete his medical before signing for Chelsea within the next 48 hours.
The shot-stopper spent the last season on loan at Championship side, Middlesbrough, as Fulham was relegated from the Premier League, making 42 appearances.
