ABESAN Estate Residents Association has mourned the death of Alhaji Lateef Jakande.

Recall that the first civilian governor of Lagos State, Jakande, was reported dead at the age of 91 on Thursday.

The President of Abesan Estate Residents’ Association (AERA), Mr A.O Kehinde, on behalf of the people of Abesan has commiserated with the Jakande family, praying for the repose of his soul.

He said: "It is with shock that I heard of Papa Jakande’s passing yesterday. Papa was said to have died around 11am in his sleep.

"That is the kind of death experienced by angels sent to the earth to change the lives of people. But for Papa Jakande, our benefactor, many of us enjoying being flat-lords in Lagos would be homeless.

"Papa had vision and worked at it vigorously. He is undoubtedly a fulfilled man.

"On behalf of myself and the good people of Abesan Estate, one of the Estates built by Papa Jakande when he was the governor of Lagos, I commiserate with Lagos State government and Papa’s family on his passing. He has left a vacuum that cannot be filled.

"We pray for the repose of his soul and eternal peace."

Abesan Estate is one of the low-cost houses built by Jakande during his tenure as the governor of Lagos State.
