A 34-year-old dispatch rider, Rotanna Ofoma, was on Monday charged before a magistrate court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos State over alleged theft of his employer’s N116, 000.

The defendant, who is a resident of Number 69, Giwa Street, Aboru in Iyana-Ipaja, stole N116, 000 from the complainant, one Mrs IleriOluwa Adegunloye.

According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Sunkanmi Adejumo, the defendant committed the offence on September 9 at 10.00 a.m at No. 331B Gowon Estate, Egbeda, Lagos, where he stole from the complainant.

Adejumo said that the complainant gave a motorcycle to the defendant for delivery business with an agreement to remit the said amount to her.

“The defendant converted the money to his personal use, and all efforts made by the complainant to retrieve the money from the defendant proved abortive,” the prosecutor said.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. A. Teluwo, admitted the defendant to N50, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Teluwo ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was subsequently adjourned to November 12 for mention.
