63-year-old man docked over alleged fraud

A 63-year-old man, Solomon Oyeyinka, on Thursday, was brought before the magistrate court sitting in Yaba, Lagos, for allegedly defrauding four people of N5 million under the pretext of renting for them, an apartment.

A 63-year-old man, Solomon Oyeyinka, was brought before the magistrate court sitting in Yaba, Lagos, on Thursday, for allegedly defrauding four people of N5 million under the pretext of renting an apartment for them.

Oyeyinka, who resides in the Shomolu area of Lagos State, is facing a nine-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and obtaining by false pretences.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Oriabure, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometimes in October 2019, at Mende area of Maryland, Lagos.

He claimed that the defendant, along with his accomplice, put up a two-bedroom flat at Maryland for rent and proceeded to rent the same flat out to four different people, thereby defrauding them of a total of N5 million.

According to the prosecutor, N1.25 million was gotten from a Susan Isu, one Lawal Babatunde paid N1.5 million, Emeka Victor N1.1 million, and N1.25 million from one Josephine Uda.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs S. Salawu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

She also directed that both sureties must be residing within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with an evidence of three years tax payment to Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned to October 2 for mention.
