TWO men, Kazeem Badmos, 45 and Nurudeen Adeoye, 45, have been charged to court following their arrest for allegedly engaging Police officers from the Ikotun Division in a public brawl during the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections on Saturday, March 18, 2023.

According to media reports, the Police Constable attached to the Ikotun Division, Ariyo Moshood, is lying critically ill at an undisclosed hospital after he was pushed from a moving vehicle and hit his head on the edge of the gutter during the mayhem.

The incident happened along the Ikotun road in the Igando-Ikotun LCDA of Alimosho LGA, where the suspects, Badmos and Adeoye alongside others now at large, reportedly engaged the Police officers led by the DPO and CSP Johnson Adagba, in a fight.

The cause of the fight, which left many police officers with various degrees of injuries, was a result of disobedience to lawful order during the election. They were said to be moving with their vehicle during the election, while there was a restriction on the movement of vehicles till after the election.

While the men were driving, the Police accosted them to know why they were on the road despite the restriction directives by the Government on that day.

They ignored the Police and attempted to move on. This led to a serious argument, which led to the attack on the Police officers and many sustained injuries in the process.

However, the Police managed to arrest the two prime suspects and detained them at the station.

They were later charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for conspiracy, assault, and obstruction, to which they pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the court to give a date for the hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs A.K. Dosumu, granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of a means of livelihood and tax payment.

They were remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions, while the matter was adjourned till  April 12, 2023, for mention.
