COMMUTERS were, in the early hours of Monday, September 12, 2022, left stranded along the LASU-Powerline, Idimu-Iyana-Ipaja routes following heavy rainfall which started the night before.

Information reaching Alimoshotoday states that very few vehicles were on the ground to convey the commuters who defied the downpour to leave their homes for their various places of engagement for the day. Commuters were seen standing on the side of the road, waiting for buses that were already loaded at full capacity, though with an added charge.

Drivers, in a bid to escape the traffic on the major roads, had to take alternative routes in adjoining streets, but these were also occupied, resulting in standstill traffic for some time.

Our correspondent gathered that the hike in transportation fares was not unconnected to the lack of road worthiness of some vehicles.

A respondent who did not give his name said, "It is not that the money is too much, we will still pay, but there are no buses. I think it is because a good number of vehicles cannot ply the road when it is raining, so those that can have to use this opportunity to make money for themselves too."

The rains also caused traffic gridlock for buses heading towards Oshodi from Egbeda.
