Alimosho residents in the Igando-Ikotun area of the Local Government Area have offered varying opinions on whether the government or the residents of the LGA are to be blamed for the mismanagement of waste in the area. They also highlighted some of the health hazard it poses on them.

Waste management is no doubt one of the areas that still needs to be looked into in most areas in Lagos state. Most of the major markets visited in Alimosho as at the time of this report had waste heaps. This propels the question, whose fault is it?

During a conversation with AlimoshoToday on waste heaps blame share and its health hazards, Mrs Kudirat Akinola said, “the people of the community are the ones to be blamed. The government have tried to provide waste bins for the disposal of refuse but we chose to litter the ground at every opportunity given”.

In addition to the stench, she also lamented that she has been treating malaria for the past few weeks due to the massive breeding of mosquitoes at the 'dump site'.

A resident identified as Madam Kofoworola told AlimoshoToday that the issue of refuse dumps have become a regular habit in Igando-Ikotun area. In fact, she doubts there will be changes in the lives of people around Ikotun concerning their ways of disposing refuse. She promised to always do her part as a good citizen.

A lady who pleaded anonymosity said the government is to be blamed for waste mismanagement. "If they had imposed restrictions and good health care services in the market area, there won’t be health issues around the market area", she told AlimoshoToday

However, she pleaded and asked the community to help in providing more refuse bin in the market to make Alimosho clean again.
