Pastor Fadumiye, who is also the Chief Executive Officer, Leadership Edge Consult, made this revelation while speaking as a facilitator at the maiden edition of the Alimosho Tomorrow Leaders Conference which was held on Friday, September 23 at the Lagos Theatre, Igando.

Fadumiye said traits and characters adopted by young ones early in life can serve as a foundation for their future life achievements or failures, adding that belief in that character or way of life adopted can only build a person when there is a form of commitment to that value.

Giving the importance of values in his delivery, he said, “Values affect your decisions. Positive values are a policy you would need tomorrow. The values you have will decide the friends you make and the career path you choose. When you have values now, you have already reached decisions in advance.”

Fadumiye, who has over a decade of experience in leadership and value creation, reiterated the values to be committed to for ensuring one turns out a better decision maker, and ultimately, a better person.

According to him, these values include, making a positive impact on everyone they meet and everywhere they go, being a solution provider and not a part of the problem to be solved, being a role model worthy of emulation, and being the best in what they are good at, especially what they are naturally good at.

In addition, he said the students should strive to do the right thing at all times regardless of who is doing the wrong thing, as well as placing value on time and making the best use of it.

He added that as the students progress in life, they should care for others and show respect in their words and actions, consciously building a great legacy for themselves, and living a life of integrity and honour while making their family, nation and their God proud of them.

In further breaking down these points, Fadumiye said that for youths to go far in life, they must impact people and not be the ones responsible for their travails. Furthermore, he admonished the students to carve a niche for themselves and become exemplary to others, whether or not their opinions would be accepted.

“No matter how many people are doing the wrong thing, it will never be right. Start now to build a great legacy. What you do now is affecting your future,” he said.

The motivational speaker also called on the students to be honest and to shun cheating during examinations, adding that this will make them dull academically, and will result in them being ill-equipped to face their academics squarely when there is no chance to cheat.
