2023, despite just being in its 27th day, has witnessed the release of quite several interesting Nollywood movies currently making waves within and outside the country.
Amongst them is Netflix's Shanty Town, which features quite many A-list actors.
The official synopsis of the movie reads, “A group of courtesans attempts to escape the grasp of a notorious kingpin- but political corruption and blood ties make freedom a near-impossible goal.
“Originally intended to be a feature-length movie, the project is now a 6-part series that follows the story of three Lagos State hustlers who unite to wage war against the biggest and most crime ring in the state.”
In a now-controversial scene, Chief Ferdinand (RMD), a politician, was seen fondling what many thought to be the breast of Nancy Isime (Shalewa) when she visited his home for commercial sex work with his son – Femi.
His action as depicted in the movie was based on the suspicion that probably, Shalewa may have made away with some valuables while sneaking out of the Ferdinand mansion, leading to her stripping, with her buttocks and breasts on display.
Responding to critics, Isime in an Instagram post said it was not her body that was on display in the movie, adding that a body double was used for the scene.
A body double in movies refers to a person who is used on set to pose as another actor. It is usually adopted for scenes — such as nudity — where the main actor is unwilling to do.
The role is often played by models and their faces are usually concealed.
“Simmer down horny boys and girls. I know those gorgeous body parts excite you but they sadly belong to my beautiful body double. Mine aren’t that succulent. Enjoy our beautiful masterpiece, get the message from each scene and Focus on the right Focus!” she wrote.
A further look into the movie shows that in the end credit, where names of cast and crew members are shown, the name of Nancy Isime’s double was given as Best Marshal, a dancer and actress.
This scene is similar to that of Bimbo Ademoye in Anikulapo wherein her breasts were supposedly real. After days of speculating about the controversial sex scene, the film’s SFX makeup artist, Hakeem Effect let the cat out of the bag, saying that the breasts were prosthetics that required hours of intense work. Thus meaning that it was not real, even if many still disagree.
